Black Panther by Christopher Priest: The Complete Collection, Vol. 1 by Vince Evans, Mike Manley, Sal Velluto, M.D. Bright, Mark Texeira, Christopher J. Priest, Joe Quesada, Amanda Conner, Joe Jusko

2.5

I'm very confused by this volume. I heard such amazing things about the Christopher Priest run, but was definitely disappointed.  This entire volume is narrated by Everett Ross, who is telling a very disjointed story in a very annoying way. The back of the volume does have an explanation for why a comic about a Black superhero is narrated by a white man, and it basically boils down to exactly what I suspected - they wanted to make this series more palatable for white audiences. Resulting in this awful mess that could have been much better with a more authentic voice. It also had a very similar storyline to the Don McGregor run with T'Challa being away from Wakanda doing everything except leading his own nation lol. I hope future volumes give us a fresh story, hopefully one that actually takes place in Wakanda. I did like that this run seems to be more fast-paced than the Don McGregor one, which was a slog to get through. Maybe volumes 2-4 are better than this one!
