The Bishop's Pawn by Steve Berry

4.0

It has been 50 years since the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. It has been eighteen years since then-rookie-agent Cotton Malone took his first case for the Department of Justice & Stephanie Nelle, a case that started with the recovery of a coin and led to the retrieval of documents that could change how history is written.

After dabbling here and there in Cotton Malone’s world, I have just about decided to read the entire series, beginning to end, and immerse myself in all-things-Cotton. Thus, I thought “let’s start with the story that is chronologically first” – and just like the other few that I have read in this series, I was blown away by a highly probably what-if scenario.

Hidden files and kept secrets will always lead to speculation and conspiracy theories. We will never know what really happened to lead to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination. The story that Steve Berry lays out here is just as likely as the story we’ve always been told – and it may even be more likely.

I love what Steve Berry does with high-profile bits of history, where he takes the reader, and how he poses ideas & questions that make me think hard about what we are fed in history books & classes and what may indeed have happened. I’m read, Cotton, bring it all on!
