Julia's House for Lost Creatures by Ben Hatke

4.0

Beautiful watercolor illustrations that kept my baby's attention and a cute, engaging storyline. Julia's house moves into town, but she is lonely and so posts a sign welcoming others to join her. Lots of whimsical creatures show up, which is great at first...but they turn out to be awful roommates (flashback to noisy and messy college roommates). Julia creates a chore chart (which sounds awful and pedantic and boring, but I swear it isn't) and helps everyone enjoy each other's company once more.

Give this to imaginative readers who will appreciate the detailed and magical illustrations and the quiet zaniness of the story. This will appeal to kids from infancy through about age 9.
