Chill Factor: Book Three of the Weather Warden by Rachel Caine

3.0

I really liked books one and two, book three… not so much. It was basically all crazy ridiculous action scenes. Joanne spends the whole book just reacting. She's dumped into one insane situation after another. She finally manages to get out, only for something else horrible to happen.

I loved Joanne being a Djinn, but now not only is she stuck as a human, she's a lousy human, who keeps whining all the time.

I couldn't stand any of the other characters either. They all kept trying to control Joanne and plotted behind her back. Even David! (The only reason I can see for this is so we readers wouldn't see any of the plot twists coming...) Joanne and David's romance was so cute, but now it's gotten so boring. I didn't care what happened to him anymore.

The worst part of the book was definitely Kevin. I hated Kevin! Why does Joanne keep trying to save that psycho?! And he was so unpredictable! You never know how he's going to react. One minute he's trying to kill her, then he acts nice, nope, back to trying to kill her. I don't know if he's horribly written or just crazy.

Speaking of badly written, Kevin isn't the only one who made no sense. There were several instances where characters acted completely stupidly and out of character just to further the plot.
Spoiler(Like Johnathan finally getting a hint about the missing Djinn, (you know, what he went through all of this to find out) only wake Kevin up when Joanne asked him to. No argument, no complaint that she wanted to speak with Kevin alone and obviously plot against him.) And Joanne really should've figured out where the bottle had gone…

I hate when
Spoilerthere's a pregnant protagonist, because then she can't do anything exciting without risking her baby. It isn't as bad here because it's a Djinn baby who might never be born since David has to die for her to live. But I still could've done without that plotline.

The ending was also disappointing.
Spoiler(Joanne did nothing to defeat the bad guy!)
Overall, it was rather depressing.

What did I like about this book? Hmm… There was a good twist I didn't see coming. Yeah, that's about it.

Will I keep this book? Nope.

Will I read the next one? Probably, but only because I own it.
