On ne badine pas avec l'amour by Alfred de Musset

3.0

3.5/5 or 7/10

Hm, I'm not too sure what to say about this piece though its inspiration (Musset's relationship with George Sand) does make it much more readable. I'm not too sure it represents youth as it should, now, though as theater for the themes it's quite immersive in the long repliques that are filled with detailed and thoughtful writing. Even Musset's perspective in love as a game of cruelty certaintly came from his experience. But, I'm not too sure I like the pace that comes with it? It's an intriguing piece that's filled with characters that picked my interest in their dynamic, but Musset could've developped their ideals properly with a longer piece. Both of them state openly their thoughts, but I felt that their manipulative game with the letters, Rosette and their promises could've lasted longer than rushing past quick and short scenes.
