The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

adventurous dark inspiring mysterious medium-paced

4.25

Collins did a great job with this prequel! Snow’s story was dramatic and fraught with ethical dilemmas, but it was fascinating to watch him make ‘good’ choices for the wrong reasons. This was far more interesting than just watching him be or become evil, which is what so many villain prequel books do. I was also really invested in Lucy Gray and her story, and often felt like the book was mainly about her, but Coriolanus didn’t know it. One of my favorite things about the Hunger Games series— the use of songs and especially ballads— was on full blast in this book. This was well done and thoroughly enjoyable.
