The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley

wow, okay I have a lot to say about this book. I don't know where to start.
it took me (what feels like) forever to read this. it was extremely slow and the chapters were SO LONG. but I wanted to keep reading. there are some books that are a hard dnf for me, but then there are others I know are worth it. I'm glad I stuck around for this one but I would've also been okay if I let it go. the twist was very unexpected (or maybe it just was because most of the time, I had no idea what was going on) and the open ending was such a good choice (I have mixed emotions with open endings). this story was good, but there was so much missing.
one of the main reasons that this was so hard to focus on was because of the writing. it was so beautiful, but it also felt unnecessary. it almost took me out of the story at times and made the main character hard to connect to (I just realized she doesn't have a name, which is such an interesting choice?!). it's like focus was put more on the writing than on the plot.
this is marketed as a sci-fi (I believe?) which I love so I was really excited to read this. I didn't know there would be a romance sub plot and at times it felt very out of place. like the sex scenes came out of nowhere and I just kinda wish they weren't there?
there was A LOT happening in this book, like maybe too much. it was a little confusing. so much could be said about it, but I don't feel passionate about it enough to want to write about it (does that make sense? like the symbolism of it all?)
overall, my rating is not bad nor good. it was a really cool premise, but it was hard to escape into. really awesome that this was somewhat based off of real people though!!
anyways,,,, connected with some parts of it though. The most I got out of this book were these quotes:
"When something changes you constitutionally, you say: "The earth moved." But the earth stays the same. It's your relationship with the ground that shifts."
"These stars were a temporary, beautiful gift of our era - the era that we all shared, a human era. I'd die one day, just like everyone else, so I had better try to live."
"The truth is, it won't get better if you keep making the same mistakes, it can get better, but you must allow yourself to imagine a world in which you are better."
"Forgiveness, which takes you back to the person you were and lets you reset them. Hope, which exists in a future in which you are new. Forgiveness and hope are miracles. They let you change your life. They are time travel."
This last quote would've been even more profound if the story was more well-rounded
