Interesting worldbuilding kept me reading but the characters felt like they had the potential to be incredibly compelling and yet never quite hit the mark. The end was very underwhelming.

he gets his amputated hand replaced (whether with a flesh hand or a realstic prosthetic is unclear) by magical future medicine with little fanfare and without his consultation near the end. His memories are also restored artificially and largely against his wishes
