We Are Satellites by Sarah Pinsker

Interesting family drama about the introduction of a believable futuristic technology and how it impacts different kinds of people: those who embrace it, those who don't want it, those who can't get it, and those who feel pressured to get it.

I had to get used to the very 'matter-of-fact' writing style, but I eventually got invested in the characters and their conflicts. For a long time the book doesn't take clear sides in the discussion about the technology, which I think is realistic and nuanced, because people would not all be impacted in the same way. I thought the ending was not nuanced at all though, and wrapped up too neatly.

I wouldn't be surprised if we actually get technology that is somewhat similar to what is described in here, and that people would react exactly like they did in this book. The issue of 'getting left behind' in society if you can't get or don't want the technology, would probably be just as huge.
