Nathaniel sucks. Seriously. I haven't disliked a character in novel this much since Portnoy. The fact that he does not get any come-uppance by the end of the book retrospectively ruined this book for me. The only thing that kept me going was the feeling that somehow Nathan was going to pay, in even a small way, for his nonsense. And nonsense it was. That he could be so self-involved and so self-unaware and not be punished in some way, infuriated me.
