The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women by Kate Moore

5.0

This book is phenomenal... fascinating, infuriating, heartbreaking, unbelievable...and horrifically true. Kate Moore, in a narrative voice that makes you part of the circle of friends later known as the Radium Girls and the living dead, weaves a tale that spans decades: of the discovery of Radium, of the misguided beliefs in its health and curative properties, of the innocent delight in its magical allure, of the slow onset of its destructive reality, and of the journey for justice. Moore exposes the callous, selfish actions of the Radium industry, and applauds the tenacious fighting spirits of the innocent victims who battled on as they suffered and died, so that future industrial workers would be spared their miseries.
This is a captivating must-read, and deserving of acclaim and awards!
