Girls of July by Alex Flinn

4.0

This book was more of a 3.5 but I decided to round up. I decided to pick the book up because the cover really caught my eye. I expected a deep story about friendship and girls finding themselves in the wilderness, and to a certain extent that's what it was. It was an entertaining story and at some points it was deep and even made my stone heart feel things but... I wanted more. I feel like this story only skimmed the surface of the summer these girls spent together. The first half of the book was only following the first week that they were together, so I felt that the last half was rushed trying to wrap things up. I also wish it showed the girls friendship better. The book followed the four different perspectives but I don't think that the characters were deeply developed and their actions didn't always show their personalty. I just didn't get the life-long friendship vibe that I wanted and expected. The characters spent a lot of time apart from each other, which is okay but just made them being bosom friends less believable. I know this review doesn't sound like a 4 star review but the book was good and I had a great time reading it, I just wish the characters and story lines were a bit deeper.
