The Chicken Who Loved Books by Angela Hunt

3.0

Little Red loved listening to Henry reading his books, but one day, he brought an electronic game with him instead, and stopped reading to them. What's a book-loving chicken to do?

Charmingly illustrated, The Chicken who Loved Books is a reminder that books bring people together more than flashy noisy games. We could look deeper and discuss digital additction (which is a very real thing, even in children), and how reading with someone can help bring people back. It's a reminder to parents to put away their phones and read to their kids when asked; it's a reminder to children to pry their eyes away from screens.

Perhaps a little heavy-handed, though. While the determined chook was amusing, the rest of the book fell a little flat for my book-loving kids' tastes.
