From Here to There: The Art and Science of Finding and Losing Our Way by Michael Bond

5.0

Thoroughly enjoyable mix of history, neuroscience, and psychology on the human need for a sense of place and direction. The neuroscience can be a bit dry, but Bond’s ability to relate these details to things like the more relatable fear of being lost allows “From Here to There” to work on many levels. His recounting of navigational successes and failures throughout history creates an effective narrative arc that helps readers realize all that may be lost in our current age of pocketable GPS devices. Highly recommended and a sure fire entry for my shortlist of best books of 2020.
