Angels & Demons
by Dan Brown
Meh... I liked the setting and the atmosphere that the backdrop of the Vatican provided. I wanted to know what happened and how Brown would get to the resolution, but I was disappointed about having guessed who was behind the plot and the Illuminati threat. The obvious things to not like involve the ludicrous helicopter scene that lead to the resolution of the antimatter threat. I am all for suspending my disbelief, but for a story that was trying to create a suspenseful story set in modern reality, this went beyond reason. I guess I also wanted more knowledge and focus on religion vs. science and the Vatican vs. the Illuminati. There were less details about Vatican methods and procedures than I'd hoped. Details that should be known, such as a pope's remains resting in multi-layered coffins, were ignored for the story's sake. The romance angle was forced and unnecessary. Apparently, I hear, that the edits made for the movie actually improve the results overall.
