A heavy story told through the innocent eyes of a young girl. Betty truly showcases how the existence of a strong and caring adult can make all the difference. This novel is littered with pain and suffering, yet the writing allows the reader to still have an enjoyable experience. The characters became alive in a myriad of ways that allowed for a level of understanding that might not have otherwise been found. Worth the read, but be prepared for several traumas.
