This was actually really easy to read & had me hooked right from the start.  While there was plenty going on with the different directions the story was taking, it never felt rushed or confused.  There were plenty of twists & just when I thought I knew what was happening, the rug would be pulled out from under my feet.  It was exciting & gripping, and I really enjoyed it.

However, there were things I didn’t like.  For a book first released in 2000, it is really showing attitudes for an even earlier time - the sexism in general & the apathy of the police.  I also felt that the relationship between Melanie & Conner was shoehorned into the story for no reason, and I was disappointed in the ending.  After the crimes were solved, I was expecting an epilogue of some sorts, not the “…and they all lived happily ever after” situation that we got.
