Hey, Hey, Hay!: A Tale of Bales and the Machines That Make Them by Joe Cepeda, Christy Mihaly

4.0

Picture book. Another book that came to my attention via the Accurate Agricultural books webinar, this is a rhyming book that is an ode to the hay-making process. Many people have seen those fields of hay bales, but don't know the process of how those bales come to be. My great-grandfather had a steer farm and my father told me of many summer days spent on the farm baling hay. So I was appreciative of the step-by-step narrative of the process. I love that the farmers shown are a mother and daughter. I also appreciated the recipe for the apple cider vinegar drink known as switchel, though I have yet to try it. A great read for farm storytimes, summer/fall storytimes, or step-to-step process lessons.
