The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson
4.0
What do I say about The Weight of Blood? Borrowing from Stephen King’s classic horror story Carrie, The Weight of Blood is provocative and reflective of many issues of race seen in the US today—especially small rural communities where change happens slowly and is often unwelcome. The novel provides relevant and realistic examples of racism—on both a blatant level and micro aggression level, as well as colorism: the unwritten rules of being “enough” for your color’s culture.
I would have preferred a bit less of the supernaturalism but it did get me thinking about the “source” of the ‘powers’ that can destroy a community.
