The Raven and the Dove by Kaitlyn Davis

4.0

I am very late with writing a review for this book. But I want to say that initially, I was nervous about reading a book by a white author in which the protagonist was a black, a black woman at that. But I must commend Kaitlyn Davis for not having stereotypical tropes attached to the iconic Lyana, which is the only way to describe her. She was not some damsel that needed to be saved. She is beautiful, confident, and caring. Whenever nonblack individuals portray a black female character as being secure, it always has a slightly negative connotation. But with this story, it was what drove the story to be the beauty that it was. Also, each character is beautifully developed. The world-building is phenomenal, as I so desperately would love to see the world of The Raven and The Dove brought to life in an HBOMax television series.

I love this book so much and recommend it to many people because we get a story in which the identity of the black main character is not her blackness and the trauma she has to face due to it. It was a refreshing stray away from stereotypical tropes for black characters.ters
