Agent of Byzantium by Harry Turtledove, Isaac Asimov

4.0

Early writing from Harry Turtledove, whose later work I really appreciate.

'Agent of Byzantium' is a series of short stories where the protagonist usually finds himself discovering or appropriating new technologies for the Byzantine secret service. Telescopes! Vaccines! Gunpowder! The printing press! Basil Argyros does get around.

It is silly, but fun, and I cannot recall another protagonist whose unibrow is so frequently mentioned. Extra points for that and the ridiculous super colorful cover haha. 3.5 stars overall.
