The Persephone Book of Short Stories by Susan Glaspell

3.0

A good collection of short stories foregrounding a wealth of writers commonly overlooked. I would have liked more late 20th Century works. It's true that the titles span 1909-1986, but nineteen out of thirty stories are from the 30s and 40s; and only five are post-1950. The stories themselves are also incredibly white-western, middle class centric. It would be great to hear from more women of colour, LGBT women or disabled women.
I hope to read more from Persephone Books, I like their ethos of bringing to light forgotten female authors, but I hope that they continue to expand their range to allow greater diversity in their future collections.
