Earth Strike by Ian Douglas

Enjoyed this one more than I was expecting. So much so I decided to swoop on the next 3 in the series a short ways before finishing this first title.

The tale of a space-ship aircraft carrier and its fleet of support vessels against an alien foe all takes place over a short span of time, each chapter from one of only a handful of viewpoints, dated and timed so you know when you are as well as whom you're following. It also starts fast and keeps the momentum up almost throughout, with the odd break to visit the background of some key characters. So we dive into an imminent space battle and it's quickly followed up with more action. I liked this.

It's certainly not epic stuff, but a good fast-paced read in the military SF genre which I'm thoroughly enjoying right now.
