Blackout by Angie Thomas, Dhonielle Clayton, Ashley Woodfolk, Nic Stone, Nicola Yoon, Tiffany D. Jackson

4.5

This novel made me want to cheer for young Black love; it’s hilarious and heartwarming and just gave all the feels, y’all. I absolutely loved how these six authors totally deconstructed the idea of a short story anthology, with all these stories being interconnected and taking place in the same city and on the same day. My favorite storylines were the ones written by Tiffany D. Jackson and Ashley Woodfolk, as they were the swoon worthiest of all the swoons. This novel features queer Black kids, Black kids with anxiety, Black kids with single-parent households, and Black kids dealing with grief.
