Echo Burning (Jack Reacher, #5) by Lee Child

2.0

The worst in the Jack Reacher series so far. I found myself skipping through the last few chapters desperate to get the book over and done with. The main female character is pathetically drawn and so unbelievable even when she's meant to be speaking the truth, I begin to wonder if the author has ever spent more than 5 minutes in the company of women. There was a whole chapter devoted to summarising the story so far, with Reacher, who doesn't like attention and isn't one for grand gestures, holding a Poirot-like "this is how he did it" scene, which was completely unnecessary - these stories aren't complicated. The final big battle was boring and too long. There are only so many ways one can describe a bleak desert landscape.

I'm glad it's over.
