I hated the first book in this series about Ava and Alex but I really wanted to read about Josh and Jules so I gave them a chance. When I started the book I found Josh and Jules more fun to follow and read about but that kinda fell flat very fast.
The problem with this book is the use of unnecessary scenes (just like the first book). Once again, we have some underdeveloped mystery plot that randomly starts in the middle of the book with no lead-up whatsoever. It's just annoying to read because this book could've done perfectly fine without it - let's just say I mostly skimmed through those flashbacks about Jules her past.
I hated Ava and Alex, I could not stand them for the life of me and that did not change in this book. It was a pain to read about them in this book, and the fact they were present for so long I get angry just thinking about it. But that made it easier for Josh and Jules to be a nicer couple to follow, so they were in the beginning when they still hated each other. I was intrigued with the idea of enemies with benefits and the first to smutty scenes definitely delivered but then it just got repetitive and boring.
Somewhere halfway through the book I was at a point where I would give this book three stars because it was enjoyable to read and nothing really was that bad to give it less until ... until Josh decided to become a whole ass red walking flag. ~spoiler~ When he decided to lie to Jules about forgiving her just to fuck her and then say 'I lied, I did not forgive you', excuse me but that's on the line of nonconsual sex which equals to rape. He knew damn good that she would not have had sex with him if he hadn't forgiven her. I despice such behaviour and let's just say I now hate him too and he has no redeeming qualities or excuses that excuse this behaviour so yay, another man by Ana Huang I hate. Can't say I'm not surprised ~end spoiler~
Let's just say this book is way too long for what it is and an editor should have definitely cut out majority of those scenes. I don't know if I will ever be able to read one of her books (at least in this series) and like them because they're just so messy and all over the place. I am intrigued for the next couple in this series but I just know there will be some 'mystery' plot line about someone's past that will ruin the whole book so I think I'm just gonna pass on that.
