This was a really captivating read that I couldn't put down. A female human warrior who's trained to kill mermaids falls in love with one of them? Yes please! This book is eerie, action-packed, and full of kickass women going off to war. This first one doesn't have much in the way of romance though, it's very much a slow burn while Meela comes to term with her feelings.
The only real problem I had with this book was that a few scenes were written kind of oddly, and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Even when I reread the scene, and when the characters commented on it later I had trouble figuring out what exactly had happened.
This is a very engaging, polished story, and probably the best mermaid tale I've read yet. I really recommend it and am looking forward to the sequel.
