The story was compelling, although a lot of the book seemed like 'asides' about other things going on in the world of the protagonist. But the insight into post-Katrina New Orleans was moving. For me, the most interesting random fact was that after the storm, workers went to damaged houses and spray-painted an X with a number to indicate the number of dead in the house, and that during the rebuild some ppl who repainted purposefully left the X and number visible as a tribute. I wouldn't say the writing deserved 4 stars but the sex-offender and Katrina content bumped it up for me.
