Batwoman, Volume 2: To Drown the World by W. Haden Blackman, J.H. Williams III

3.0

Got this book as part of Goodreads' First Reads giveaway.

Batwoman continues to try and infiltrate Medusa and rescue the kidnapped kids while navigating her love life and new DEO employers at the same time. For the most part I liked the characters. None of them have a ton of depth, but it is only the second trade in the series. The villains are kind of flimsy. So much is kept from the reader in regards to their motives, identity, and such that they never felt fully developed. My main gripe is with the art and layout, especially action scenes. I don't mind it when artists get creative with how they layout scenes, but here it felt more sloppy than designed. As if they did it just to change it up a bit, but with no actual intent/meaning behind it. Made some action hard to follow and not impactful; more distracting than anything. Overall, I wasn't blown away by the book and story, but I did enjoy it. Will probably read the next trade when it comes out.
