Out in the Open by Jesús Carrasco, Javi Rey

Beautiful and deeply disturbing novella exploring human character and behavior.

The story is of a boy who runs away from home. The bailiff of the town places a reward for bringing him back and he must evade the bailiff as he runs.

The first night he encounters an old man who is a goatherd. Together, they begin to travel.

As the book develops, darker truths for each character are revealed. And each character's morality is explored, and tested.

At its core, this is a book about good and evil, right and wrong. When is it okay, or right, to commit acta of violence? Who governs that? How will you know?

Definitely recommend.
