Dark Sky by C.J. Box

3.0

Lately I've read several books that were the most recent in their respective series to get to my local library, and I've noticed a trend: they've each gotten darker, and depending on the genre, less realistic/less based on the rules and conventions of their settings established earlier in the series. The authors seem to get tired of their own characters, and start writing more superficial stereotypes.

In this case, the series has steadily been devolving into unlikely plots and unlikeable characters, being resolved by Nate as deus ex machina, and the endings have more gore, more violence. Not my thing. Your mileage may vary.
