Once Upon a Time: A Story Collection by Shannon Hale

3.0

Yes, it's a children's book, but I read it anyway and liked it. Good, easy read for a time where I was suffering a lot of brain drain/stress from school.

The idea is that all the major fairy tale characters went on to have children, and the children are destined to relive their parents' stories. Some seem oddly OK with having their destinies chosen for them, especially considering what some of those destinies include. I know why it was done, and there is at least one character that seems ready to rebel, but I'm still a bit iffy about this being presented in a children's book. How it's handled in the sequels - yes, I plan to read them - may change my rating.
