Soul Taken by Patricia Briggs
3.0
I love this series and have been waiting impatiently for the release of Soul Taken. It has all the usual elements of a Mercy book but, I don’t know, it feels lacking in some way.
Many of the characters weren’t acting or responding in the way we’ve come to expect. Mercy didn’t feel as present, which is strange as she is the protagonist. Zee is suddenly more dangerous without any real reason for him to be so, apart from as a plot point.
The story, whilst generally well-thought out and plotted, felt rushed. I felt that Sherwood’s identity and the subsequent problems that raises was quickly glossed over, and the whole reason for Warren’s tension and plain nastiness to Mercy was a total non-issue.
Maybe because I was so eager to read it I rushed through it and that’s why it doesn’t feel right. I don’t know. I will reread it again and maybe my thoughts will change.
