All-American Adventure by Chris Grabenstein, James Patterson

2.0

James Patterson promotes literature and reading to people of all ages, and therefore writes a lot of books for younger readers, or James Patterson writes a lot of books for younger readers and so therefore promotes reading for all ages.
I think the second may be more accurate, but the big issue is it appears that he treats his readers, the young people, like idiots.
This was a bit of a mess, and the series, which has a great idea of this family seeking treasures, is so like Patterson's empire, great in idea, but abysmal in execution.
