Existentialism Is a Humanism by Jean-Paul Sartre

reflective slow-paced

2.75

Not that great. He’s a communist apologist and I don’t think much of what he has to say holds much weight. His biggest argument is an elitist line of thought in that philosophy was meant for the educated, the academics. As the less informed tend to misconstrue many concepts because of a lack of information and/or understanding… which leads into why there is a discrepancy between what he means and how the public came to think about existentialism. The second part, about The Stranger, was hit or miss. I mean he was basically being a massive fan boy and it was kinda cringy. But, it explained the book nicely in regards to the concept of “the absurd”. The whole spiel about sentence structure was dry as heck and only matters if you are an academic or an English major, both of which I am not.
