Tao Te Ching by Laozi

reflective fast-paced

5.0

The basic concepts presented in the Tao Te Ching are straightforward. It admits so itself. Basic concepts that none under heaven live by. But the poetic presentation, the specific passages, prompt a reflection on your own life, and the lives of others around you. How well does your life abide by the Tao? It never asks, but the words prompt the thought anyways.

There are interesting meditations on leadership, virtue, and work throughout, and generally it gets at how people should live their lives at a spiritual level. I can't say that every passage seems right, or even consistent with itself, but generally I thought this was a powerful work that had me reflecting on myself as I worked through it. And it's hard to ask for more than that in a work of literature.
