John the Balladeer by David Drake, Stephen Hickman, Manly Wade Wellman, Karl Edward Wagner

4.0

Wonderful tales of John wandering the hills finding all the good trouble to get into. Wellman's approach to John's tales are "just so". His protagonist shows up, finds out trouble is brewing, finds out how to take care of it, and he takes care of it, leaving us with a note of reflection about the reach of evil and the caretaking of good.
