I enjoyed this very much.
It was funny to hear about the poll FL schoolchildren participated in in 1981 to pick the state animal because I would have voted in that. I can’t remember my choice—maybe the manatee?
Also, a lot of the action in this story took place when I was a child in Florida. It’s odd to think about all the behind the scenes political shenanigans going on that I had no interest in or awareness of at the time.
