The Midnight Bargain by C.L. Polk

I'm more disappointed than anything, I really thought I would fall head-over-heels for this novel, but I just couldn't. There were so many interesting elements, especially the magic system, which was different enough from any others I'd read, and I'm always a sucker for historical(ish) romances. My biggest issues really fall into the execution of everything. The romance was rushed, they literally fall in love when they meet for the second time, and there's not much done to develop their relationship, so it comes across as very superficial. The magic is also an irritant, as we just don't get enough of it, I kept wanting more but all we received was little pieces. The pacing is atrocious as well. Something interesting would happen, then bland nothingness for 50 or so pages. I have more issues, but I'll stop here. There was real potential with this story, but I just don't feel like it lived up to it, obviously I'm in the minority here though, and I'm happy for all the people that love this book.
