Scream and Scream Again is a collection of horror shorts for a middle grade audience, edited by none other than R. L. Stine. I have it 4/5⭐️. Some thoughts:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These stories are nostalgic in the best way! It’s like reading bits-sized Goosebumps. I loved the wide range of topics these stories covered: no two stories are the same.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My favorite thing about this collection is that they often deal with serious and mature topics. A lot of the stories give their kid MCs adult problems and thoughts while still letting them act like kids. In a nutshell, a lot of these stories were respectful of the age group they were portraying, which I loved. On the other hand, though, some of the stories did the exact opposite, treating their subjects and their conflicts as purely childish.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I will say that this felt a little too long. It’s nearly 400 pages total. I’d recommend selecting stories from this rather than reading it cover-to-cover. I was also massively disappointed in the lack of diversity. All of the 20 writers selected are white. There’s really no excuse for that.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Still, I did enjoy some of these stories. I’d recommend this for fans of Goosebumps who are looking for a fun, nostalgic read.

My a favorite stories: The Best Revenge by R. L. Stine, Summer of Sharks by Lisa Morton, The I Scream Truck by Beth Fantaskey, The Only Child by Joseph S. Walker, The Girl in the Window by Tonya Hurley, and Feed the Birds by Stephen Ross.
