Ava's Man by Rick Bragg

3.0

The writing in this novel is absolutely beautiful, and the collection of memories really paint a vivid picture of Bragg's grandfather. I would definitely recommend this book if you enjoy this genre, but while I did enjoy the actual reading of it, I didn't find it very memorable. (Disclaimer: I have been very tired lately, so that may have put a damper on things...)

Rick Bragg wrote this book based on the stories his family told of his grandfather. We hear of Charlie's life in the Deep South before, during, and after the Great Depression. This man was many things, but his number one job was that of a father. While he loved to drink, he refused to have alcohol in his home because he needed to be at his best for his family. Family comes first.
