The Furious Longing of God by Brennan Manning

3.0

This book was a gift from a friend who had found it so helpful yet, sadly, I struggled with it. Manning lays out the ultimate sterility of high church ritual, veiled 'salvation by works' and an excessively intellectual approach to theology and reminds readers instead of the 'furious' love of God. All this made such sense and is a vital message for us all and for me.
My problems in his approach lie in the underemphasis on truth and on the holiness of God. I found his use of the bible unhelpful and his extra-biblical quotations less than convincing.
His is an important message for me but his presentation did not resonate.
