The Madre de Aguas of Cuba by Adam Gidwitz, Emma Otheguy

4.0

The Madre de Aguas of Cuba is the latest in the popular Unicorn Rescue Society series. Thank you to Penguin Random House for this ARC to review.
I was really drawn to the parts about the history of the Cuban people and their many-cultured ancestors including the Taino & enslaved Africans. The legend of the madre de aguas was brought to life in a way that’s relatable to kids and honorable to the Cuban people. I also really liked Unchenna and Elliot, characters with spunk, wit, and intelligence.
The story itself will be a great addition to the series for early middle-grade readers and I’m looking forward to adding it to my class library.
