Dancing at the Pity Party by Tyler Feder

4.0

In her graphic novel memoir, Tyler Feder recalls her mother's cancer diagnosis and death. Tyler was in her late teens when her mother was diagnosed with cancer after a number of complaints about abdominal pain. Tyler and her 3 sisters had a close relationship with their mom. Tyler recounts some of her memories of her mom from childhood and we truly feel the bond that they had. Later, Tyler is away at her first year of college while her mom is dealing with her cancer treatments. There is a lot of guilt and sadness on Tyler's part. The latter portion of the book deals with the death and grieving. Tyler states that she hopes that this book will help others deal with their own grief. This book is a beautiful ode to her mother and an honest accounting of grief.
