The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny

5.0

This series just keeps getting better and better, as many of you promised it would. I am fully immersed in these characters, this setting, and this author's writing. My love for Inspector Gamache and the town of Three Pines feels familiar and safe at this point...

...which is why the murderer in this one took me absolutely by surprise!! Because this is a spoiler-free zone, I won't dwell on the killer any more, but believe me when I say it was unexpected and shocking!

Something about this book in particular grabbed me. I felt that cafe so much, with fireplaces buring on both sides of the building. I felt the warmth and coziness and I still want to find the real life Three Pines someday. I really enjoyed this mystery with the unnamed hermit victim, the codebreaking element, and the cross-country trip to the Charlotte Islands.

For whatever reason, this book felt so immersive and is my favorite one so far!
