challenging dark reflective medium-paced

My thoughts from the first book generally hold true for this one. Part two dives into the really horrific parts of the holocaust, and how the author’s father survived it. It doesn’t make out the author or his dad to be great or terrible people, just humans (or…I guess mice, technically).

The comic style and the time jumping both help to take the edge off of these hard topics, so they don’t feel as intense, for better or worse.

Overall it’s a well-done book, and it’s telling that many people want to ban it.
