Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Robin Wasserman, Sarah Rees Brennan, Cassandra Clare, Maureen Johnson

5.0

Overall, this is 5/5 stars. I think one or more short story wasn't great, but the overall collection of them is amazing.

"But I know your blood doesn't define you. What defines you is the choices you make."

While I didn't LOVE The Bane Chronicles (TBC), I did quite love this set of short stories. I like that, although it was a collection of short stories, that they had a relevance to the plot. Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy (TftSA) told these short stories through the narrator, Simon, learning about them. While TBC was just a collection of random stories about Magnus Bane. I enjoy the cohesion of it. I think the additional authors nailed it this time.

For TBC, I rated each short story separately and gave notes about each one. I won't do that with these because honestly I loved all of them in one way or another.

I have been afflicted by "Loving all people with the last name Herondale" disorder. It's incurable. I hope to live a life peacefully despite this. Honorable mention quote from this book about the Herondales: "A Herondale? Another Herondale?" Simon asked. "Herondales without cease. Do you ever get the feeling you are being chased around by Herondales?" That is what it is like to live in my brain.

Spoilers from here down!

I saw Cassandra Clare and Alissa dancing with the devil in the forest! ALL JOKES. However, Alissa is mean for "making me" read something that made me cry and Cassandra Clare is mean for writing it! I was crying in the upstairs storage room of my preschool while listening to the audiobook ending of this. GEORGE LOVELACE. Frankly. It's sick AND IT IS TWISTED. SIMON LOVELACE...... I don't know how I feel about it. I am hurting.

Also Magnus and Alec are now another couple involved in one of my favorite tropes: Accidental Baby Acquisition. That trope is like the queer antithesis to the Accidental Pregnancy trope. I love that they have a little baby now. They are going to be the best parents, honestly.

Shadowhunter Book #11 completed... onto the next.
