Set in 1930s small-town Pennsylvania, this book traces the lines of loyalty and tension between members of a diverse community. The characters are well-drawn, and Chona and Dodo are incredibly lovable, though Paper, Fatty, Nate, and Addie are also fully realized. Rambling but compelling.
