Comfort and Joy by Jim Grimsley

4.0

This was a very gentle and intimate portrait of love. It’s not always beautiful and it’s not always kind. Familial love can be ugly. Love between two people can be ugly. Jim Grimsley has a way of ripping open the human soul and making you see every part of a person in his characters. I felt a lot of myself in Ford as well as with Dan. I was a huge fan of The Dove in the Belly and while this one didn’t have the same impact for me, it still felt like one of the realest love stories I’ve ever read.
