Dracula by Bram Stoker

medium-paced

4.0

shocked pikachu face when I'm reminded that classics are actually good.

This book strangely introduced the trope of the vampire, and simultaneously subverts many of the copy cat tropes that came after. This is found footage horror restrained by the dictates of Victorian norms, but even here one can feel the swollen, engorged monster pressing against the cage of 19th century sensibilities. Also the purple prose is genuinely good and entertaining.
